“I want to be an astronaut when I grow up. So I want to know about space before I can go to into space.”

Space Camp Matters

Space Camp is where curiosity becomes confidence.

At Space Camp, students ages 9–14 step into the role of astronauts, engineers, and mission specialists. Through hands-on training and immersive simulations, they work together to solve complex problems, communicate clearly under pressure, and complete missions to the International Space Station, the Moon, and beyond.

Throughout the week, campers train on authentic astronaut simulators, design and launch rockets, and tackle engineering challenges that require creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking. They experience what it’s like to live and work in space while learning about the history — and future — of space exploration.

But Space Camp isn’t just about space.

It’s about building confidence, discovering new interests, and helping young people see themselves as capable learners and leaders. Students return home more engaged in math and science, more comfortable working as part of a team, and more excited about their future possibilities.

“I wanna go to, like, all the planets — like a passport to teleport.”

Our Program

Each spring, Reach for the Stars sends a group of students from several Minneapolis-area schools to Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama for a six-day immersive experience.

In the months leading up to camp, students participate in Mission Training Sessions one Saturday per month. During these sessions, they work together on team-building projects, explore the history of spaceflight, and run simulations that prepare them for the challenges of Space Camp. This training has proven to significantly enhance students’ experience once they arrive at camp.

The total cost of Space Camp is approximately $2,500 per student. Families pledge what they can afford, and the group works together to raise the remaining funds so that cost is never a barrier to participation.

This year, 28 students are preparing to attend Space Camp. Families are able to cover about half the cost, leaving $37,000 to raise through community fundraising efforts.

Every donation helps send a student to Space Camp — and helps launch confidence, curiosity, and possibility.
